Telangana: Senior Congress leader and Telangana minister Adluri Laxman Kumar launched sharp criticism against the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), accusing the party of lacking the courage to face debates in the state Assembly. Speaking to the media at the Assembly premises in Telangana, the minister said BRS members walked out of the House during discussions on the employment guarantee scheme because they were afraid to question the central Bharatiya Janata Party government.
Adluri Laxman Kumar said that if the opposition truly believed the state government was at fault, it should have stayed in the Assembly and proved its claims through debate. Walking out, he said, showed political weakness rather than commitment to public issues. He alleged that the BRS no longer had a clear direction and was trying to protect its political survival by maintaining friendly ties with the BJP at the national level.
The minister also made strong remarks about former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, stating that during the BRS rule of the past decade, even party MLAs were not given basic respect. He claimed decisions were taken unilaterally and that internal democracy within the party was absent. Now that the BRS has lost power, he said, its leaders are trying to gain public sympathy while avoiding accountability for past actions.
On major development initiatives such as the Musi river rejuvenation project, the minister accused the opposition of making only running comments without offering constructive suggestions. According to him, political interests mattered more to the BRS than public welfare. He urged opposition parties to act responsibly and contribute meaningfully to the state’s progress instead of creating unnecessary political noise.
Telangana: Adluri Laxman Kumar also made an important announcement regarding local body polls. He said the government is preparing to issue notifications for municipal elections by the end of this month, with polling likely to take place in February. He expressed confidence that timely elections would strengthen grassroots governance and improve service delivery in urban local bodies.
Highlighting welfare initiatives, the minister said the government is taking special steps to improve facilities in social welfare hostels. He revealed that officials have been directed to install solar-powered systems to provide hot water for students living in these hostels. The government, he said, would not compromise on student health and basic comforts.
Telangana: The minister added that since coming to power, the Indian National Congress government has focused on transparency and curbing corruption. He stated that funds meant for development and welfare schemes are being used properly and appealed to opposition parties to cooperate in the state’s development journey.
Summary
He announced that municipal election notifications may be issued by month-end, with polls likely in February, and said the government is improving welfare hostel facilities through solar-powered hot water systems while focusing on transparent governance and development.
