Hyderabad, India: Renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam spoke openly about his life, spirituality, and personal values in a recent episode of the podcast Rooted For Life, hosted by Dr. Pradeep Sethi, Co-founder of Eugenix Hair Sciences. The episode was recorded in Hyderabad and is now available on Eugenix Hair Sciences’ YouTube channel.
The conversation went far beyond music. Sonu Nigam reflected on his early life in Delhi, where he grew up in a middle-class family with limited resources. He spoke about how simplicity at home and a strong work culture shaped his thinking from a young age. The singer recalled that he did not have formal music teachers in his childhood. Instead, he learned by observing, listening closely, and practicing with discipline. According to him, this self-learning phase helped build patience, curiosity, and inner strength.
Nigam also discussed his move to Mumbai in 1991, a turning point that changed both his career and personality. Entering the highly competitive music industry taught him self-reliance and constant learning. He said the uncertainty of those early years helped him stay grounded, even after success followed.
A major part of the podcast focused on spirituality. Sonu Nigam shared how the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and later Osho influenced his inner journey. He described spirituality not as ritual, but as living with awareness and surrender. The singer spoke about spending long hours on yoga, meditation, pranayama, and deep reflection, sometimes practicing for several hours a day.
Explaining his belief in “going with the flow,” Nigam said clarity comes when ego and control are dropped completely. He stressed that partial commitment does not bring understanding, and that true devotion requires full surrender. Humility was another strong theme. Recalling personal experiences from Rishikesh, he said success should never distance a person from basic acts of devotion and respect.
The singer also spoke about gratitude, noting that no individual achieves success alone. From farmers to daily workers, many unseen efforts support everyday life. Recognising this, he said, keeps arrogance away and gratitude alive.
The podcast ended on an emotional note, with Sonu Nigam singing a soulful Odia song as a tribute to Dr. Sethi’s roots, leaving listeners with a sense of calm and reflection.
