With road accidents increasing across Telangana, the state transport department has decided to encourage citizens to save lives by offering financial rewards. People who help accident victims and shift them to hospitals without delay will receive a cash reward of ₹25,000 under the “Rah Veer” scheme, officials announced.
Every day, hundreds of road accidents are reported in Telangana, claiming many lives. In several cases, victims lose their lives not because of the severity of injuries, but due to delays in getting medical help. Fear of police cases and legal procedures often stops people from helping the injured. To change this mindset, the transport department plans to strictly implement the Rah Veer scheme, which was introduced by the central government.
Under this initiative, citizens who act responsibly and help accident victims reach hospitals immediately will be honoured. Along with the cash reward of ₹25,000, they will also be given an appreciation certificate by the transport department. Officials clarified that helpers will not face legal trouble and will be protected as per the law.
Doctors stress that the first hour after an accident is crucial and is commonly referred to as the “golden hour.” If victims receive timely medical care during this period, the chances of survival increase significantly. However, despite knowing this, many injured people are left unattended on roads, as passersby hesitate to step forward.
The Rah Veer scheme aims to promote social responsibility and humanity among citizens. While the scheme was not actively implemented in Telangana earlier, transport department officials have now confirmed that it will be rolled out effectively across the state. Awareness campaigns are also expected to encourage people to act without fear and save lives.
Officials believe that rewarding good Samaritans will help build confidence among the public and reduce preventable deaths due to road accidents. Citizens have been urged to respond immediately and responsibly whenever they witness a road accident.
