The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a special initiative for school students. Students will be allowed to watch the upcoming budget sessions of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly live from the gallery. The budget session will begin on February 11, and every day, 30 students will be permitted to observe the proceedings.
This decision was taken by Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu. Officials said the move is aimed at helping students understand how the legislative system works by giving them first-hand exposure to Assembly proceedings.
Assembly Secretary General Suryadevara Prasanna Kumar said the initiative is designed to improve students’ awareness of democracy and the importance of legislatures. By watching debates and discussions directly, students can better understand the role of the Assembly in governance.
Students who are interested in attending the Assembly sessions must apply through their schools. Headmasters are required to prepare a list of students along with their Aadhaar numbers, sign it, and submit it with the school stamp. The list should be emailed to legis.passes@gmail.com, Assembly officials said.
For any clarifications, schools and students can contact the Assembly office at 86324 49184 or 86324 49185. Each batch will consist of 30 students, and they will be allowed to watch Assembly proceedings for up to 45 minutes from the gallery.
Officials also recalled that the Andhra Pradesh government had earlier organised a mock Assembly for school students in November. That programme was well received and helped students gain practical knowledge about democratic processes. The current initiative is seen as a continuation of those efforts.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly budget sessions are scheduled to begin on February 11. On the same day, the Governor will address both Houses of the legislature. Later, a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) will be held to finalise the agenda and the number of working days for the session.
Sources said the state government is likely to present the budget on February 14, though official confirmation is awaited. Preparations for the 2026–27 financial year budget are already underway. Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav is holding department-wise review meetings and examining proposals submitted by various departments. The reviews are mainly focused on government priorities, election promises, and the implementation of welfare schemes.
