The central government has announced another major infrastructure boost for Andhra Pradesh. As part of its development push, the Centre will take up the construction of a massive six-lane road in the state using central funds. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari shared this update through a post on social media, highlighting the importance of the new project.
In recent months, Andhra Pradesh has received several key announcements from the Centre, especially in the Union Budget. Funds were allocated for high-speed rail corridors, the development of Amaravati, and the Polavaram project. The Centre also proposed new tourism-related initiatives in the state. In this backdrop, the approval of another large road project reflects the growing focus on Andhra Pradesh’s infrastructure and economic growth.
According to the announcement, the Centre has sanctioned ₹573.77 crore for building a six-lane road to improve connectivity to Machilipatnam Port. The new road will link National Highways NH-65 and NH-216 directly to the port. This dedicated corridor is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening port-based transport and trade activities.
The road will be developed via the Machilipatnam bypass, ensuring smooth and direct access between the port and the national highway network. Officials believe this will significantly reduce freight transportation time. With better road access, traffic congestion is likely to come down, and overall logistics efficiency is expected to improve across the region.
The project design includes a six-lane main carriageway along with service roads on both sides. In addition, three flyovers and one railway overbridge will be constructed along the route. These features are aimed at ensuring uninterrupted movement of vehicles and safer travel for both commercial and local traffic.
Once completed, the project is expected to give a major boost to Machilipatnam Port operations. Faster movement of goods will benefit industries, exporters, and traders. The road is also likely to create employment opportunities during construction and support long-term economic activity in nearby areas.
Overall, this six-lane road project is seen as a key step in strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s transport infrastructure and enhancing its role as a logistics and trade hub on the east coast.
