Vaibhav Suryavanshi Creates History with 175 in Under-19 World Cup Final

Vaibhav Suryavanshi stunned the cricket world with a record-breaking 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final, setting multiple all-time records

Fourteen-year-old Indian opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a once-in-a-generation performance in the Under-19 World Cup final, rewriting the record books with a breathtaking knock. In the title clash against England at Harare in Zimbabwe, Vaibhav smashed 175 runs off just 80 balls, producing one of the most remarkable innings ever seen at this level.

Batting first, India piled on a massive total, powered almost entirely by Vaibhav’s fearless stroke play. He struck 15 boundaries and cleared the ropes 15 times, dominating the English bowling attack from start to finish. His explosive innings helped India post a huge 411 runs in their allotted 50 overs, putting the match firmly in India’s control.

With this effort, Vaibhav became the highest run-scorer in an Under-19 World Cup final. The previous record was held by India’s Unmukt Chand, who scored an unbeaten 111 against Australia in the 2012 final. Australia’s Brett Williams, who made 108 in the 1988 final against Pakistan, now slips further down the list.

Vaibhav also set a new benchmark across all ICC tournament finals, including senior and junior events. His 175 is the highest individual score ever recorded in any ICC final. Earlier, this record belonged to Australia’s Alyssa Healy, who scored 170 in the 2022 Women’s ODI World Cup final against England.

Another major record fell as Vaibhav smashed the most sixes ever in a single Under-19 World Cup innings. His 15 sixes surpassed previous bests held by Australia’s Michael Hill, who hit 12 sixes against Namibia in 2008, and Craig Simmons, who struck 11 against Kenya in 2002.

Vaibhav also registered the second-fastest century in Under-19 World Cup history, reaching the milestone in just 55 balls. The fastest hundred remains with Australia’s Will Maleischuk, who scored a century in 51 balls against Japan in the same tournament.

Across the entire World Cup, Vaibhav hit a total of 30 sixes, the most by any player in the competition’s history. This broke the earlier record of 18 sixes set by South Africa’s Dewald Brevis during the 2022 Under-19 World Cup.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s extraordinary performance in the final not only guided India to a commanding position but also announced the arrival of a special talent on the world stage.
