AP High Court Denies Interim Protection to Mohan Babu in Tirupati Kidnap Case

The Andhra Pradesh High Court refused to grant interim protection from arrest to actor Mohan Babu in a Tirupati kidnap case.

Actor Mohan Babu did not receive relief from the Andhra Pradesh High Court in connection with a kidnap case registered in Tirupati district. The court made it clear that it cannot grant interim protection from arrest at this stage. It stated that a decision would be taken only after hearing the victim’s side in detail.

The case was registered on the 3rd of this month by Tiruchanur police following allegations that student leaders were kidnapped. The complaint was filed by a student leader named Kumar. Mohan Babu approached the High Court seeking to quash the case. During the hearing, the court directed that complete details related to the case be submitted and adjourned the matter to the 12th of this month.

Arguing on behalf of Mohan Babu, his counsel stated that he had no connection with the alleged kidnapping. It was claimed that he was not present at the location when the incident took place and that he travelled from Hyderabad to Tirupati only later. Boarding pass details were reportedly presented in court. The defense also argued that the case was intended to damage the reputation of the university and requested that police issue notices and seek an explanation instead of proceeding with arrest.

However, the government counsel representing the police informed the court that there were preliminary pieces of evidence suggesting Mohan Babu’s involvement. It was also stated that there were phone calls and message exchanges between Mohan Babu and the university PRO Satish around the time of the incident. Police further submitted that notices were issued to Manchu Vishnu, listed as A3 in the case, but he did not appear for questioning. Since the investigation is still at an early stage, the prosecution requested the court not to grant interim protection.

According to allegations, the incident occurred when student union leaders were heading to the Tirupati Collectorate to submit a petition protesting high fees charged by the university. They were allegedly abducted and assaulted before police intervened and rescued them.
