India–EU deal cheer fades fast; markets slip again, Heritage Foods shares fall sharply

After a brief rise due to the India–EU trade deal, stock markets slipped again. Weak quarterly results led to a sharp fall in Heritage Foods shares

After the free trade agreement between India and the European Union, Indian stock markets had risen for two days. But that positive mood did not last long. On Thursday, the markets again came under pressure and traded with losses.

At the start of the session, the key indices opened sharply lower and continued to remain in the red. At around 12.30 pm, the BSE Sensex was down by about 200 points and was trading near the 82,100 level. The NSE Nifty also fell by more than 50 points and was hovering around 25,250. Heavyweight stocks were seeing selling pressure, pulling the markets down.

Amid the market fall, shares of leading dairy company Heritage Foods witnessed a sharp decline. The company was founded by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. On the previous day, the Heritage Foods share closed at ₹396.65. On Thursday, it opened with a loss of more than 7 percent at around ₹368. The selling did not stop there. During intraday trade, the stock fell by nearly 10 percent and touched a low of ₹358.20. At present, it is trading around ₹360, down about 9 percent.

The company’s current market value is around ₹3,370 crore. Its 52-week high price is ₹540, which means the stock has fallen nearly 35 percent from that level. The 52-week low price is ₹352.10, and the current price is close to that level.

On January 28, Heritage Foods announced its results for the third quarter of the current financial year. The results failed to meet market expectations. The company’s net profit fell sharply by nearly 20 percent to ₹34.5 crore. However, revenue increased slightly by 8.2 percent to ₹1,119.1 crore. Due to the drop in profits, investors started selling the stock, leading to strong selling pressure.

Because of the sharp fall in the share price, investors suffered heavy losses. Not only investors, but promoters of the company also faced major losses in a single day. Though Chandrababu Naidu founded the company, he currently does not hold any stake in it. His wife, Nara Bhuvaneshwari, is the Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the company. As of December 31, 2025, she holds a 24.37 percent stake, equal to 22.61 million shares. With the stock falling nearly 10 percent intraday, her wealth declined by more than ₹86 crore in a single day.

Another promoter, Nara Lokesh, holds a 10.82 percent stake, or about 10.04 million shares. Due to the fall, his wealth dropped by over ₹38 crore. Lokesh’s wife, Nara Brahmani, also suffered losses on her shareholding, while their son Devansh, who holds a smaller number of shares, saw his holdings lose value by over ₹21 lakh.
