Andhra Pradesh to Host World’s Largest Green Ammonia Complex in Kakinada

Green Ammonia: AM Green will invest $10 billion to set up the world’s largest green ammonia complex in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.

AGreen Ammonia: Andhra Pradesh is set to receive another major global investment with the announcement of a large green energy project in Kakinada. State Minister Nara Lokesh confirmed that AM Green will establish the world’s largest green ammonia complex in the coastal city. The project involves an investment of nearly $10 billion and marks a significant step in the state’s push towards clean and sustainable industries.

The green ammonia plant, planned at Kakinada, is expected to bring strong economic and employment benefits to Andhra Pradesh. According to the minister, the project will directly create around 8,000 jobs once it becomes fully operational. In addition, several indirect employment opportunities are likely to emerge in supporting sectors such as logistics, maintenance, transport, and local services.

AM Green has set an ambitious target for the project. By 2030, the Kakinada facility aims to produce about 1.5 million tonnes of green ammonia every year. The project will rely on renewable energy sources to manufacture ammonia, making it environmentally friendly. Experts say this approach can significantly reduce carbon emissions when compared to conventional ammonia production methods that depend on fossil fuels.

The green ammonia produced at the Kakinada plant will be exported to international markets. AM Green plans to supply the product to countries such as Singapore, Germany, and Japan, where demand for clean fuels is rising rapidly. With many nations focusing on reducing carbon footprints, green ammonia is emerging as a key alternative energy carrier, especially for industries and shipping.

Officials noted that Kakinada’s port facilities and nearby industrial infrastructure make the city an ideal location for such a large-scale project. Easy access to export routes, availability of land, and proximity to renewable energy sources are expected to support smooth project execution. The state government believes that the plant will help transform Kakinada into a major green energy hub over the coming decade.

The Andhra Pradesh government has assured full support to the project, including speedy approvals and necessary infrastructure development. Minister Nara Lokesh said production from the green ammonia complex is expected to begin by 2030. He described the project as a key milestone in the state’s industrial growth and a strong signal to global investors looking at clean energy opportunities in India.
