A new committee has been formed to improve the management and monitoring of the government-run Anna Canteen, with Municipal Councillor Chinthakayala Rajesh appointed as its chairman. On Tuesday, the newly appointed committee members visited the local Anna Canteen to review its functioning, food quality, and overall arrangements.
Soon after taking charge, Chairman Chinthakayala Rajesh made a notable gesture by personally covering the cost of meals served at the canteen on Tuesday. He ensured that visitors received free meals and interacted directly with diners to understand their views on food quality and taste. Rajesh later joined the committee members for lunch at the canteen, highlighting his involvement in the welfare initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh said the coalition government is committed to addressing hunger among the poor by providing quality and tasty meals at an affordable price of just five rupees. He pointed out that the canteen’s location near the government hospital has made it especially helpful for patients and attendants who travel from distant areas for medical treatment. According to him, such welfare programmes are designed to directly benefit the public and offer support to those in need.
Rajesh stated that from now on, the complete operation of the Anna Canteen will be under the close supervision of the new committee. He assured that regular inspections would be conducted to maintain food quality standards. Special attention will also be given to cleanliness in and around the canteen to ensure a healthy dining environment. In addition, the committee plans to plant saplings within the premises to create a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere for visitors.
The newly formed committee includes Dr M. Venkata Ramana, Pothala Jagadeeswari, Ruthala Prasada Rao, and Barla Jyothi as members. Repati Pradeep has taken charge as the Member Convener. Several municipal councillors, leaders from coalition parties, and party workers attended the programme and extended their support and greetings to the new committee.
Participants noted that strong supervision and community involvement are essential for the long-term success of welfare initiatives like the Anna Canteen. The committee members expressed confidence that their collective efforts would help maintain high standards and ensure that the canteen continues to serve the needy effectively.
