Andhra Pradesh News: Efforts are underway to reduce traffic congestion in Vijayawada, with discussions focusing on the construction of elevated corridors, underpasses, and wider roads. Public representatives and officials recently reviewed major road and highway proposals aimed at improving urban travel and strengthening connectivity to Machilipatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh.
During a review meeting on national highways held in Machilipatnam, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath and Machilipatnam MP Balashowry discussed long-term infrastructure solutions. They proposed two elevated corridors in Vijayawada—one from the central bus station to Benz Circle, and another from Benz Circle to Gosala. If elevated corridors are not feasible, they suggested building a series of vehicle underpasses covering major junctions such as NTR Circle, Auto Nagar, Kanuru, Tadigadapa, Poranki, Penamaluru, Ganguru, and Gosala.
Officials also discussed delays caused by land acquisition issues and objections raised during the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for national highway projects. The MPs urged authorities to speed up land acquisition to avoid further delays and ensure smooth execution.
Andhra Pradesh News: To improve port connectivity, around ₹400 crore is expected to be allocated for linking Machilipatnam Port with National Highways 65 and 216. Authorities believe these projects will reduce traffic pressure in urban areas and make travel to the airport easier. At present, three new connecting routes are proposed to link National Highway 65 with National Highway 16. These include a 4-kilometre stretch between Tadigadapa and Enikepadu, a 6-kilometre stretch between Poranki and Nidamanuru, and a 10-kilometre stretch between Kankipadu and Kesarapalli.
As part of the port road works, a 3.7-kilometre four-lane greenfield road will be built from Machilipatnam Port to Machavaram Rice Mill Centre. From there to the underpass near National Highway 65, the existing road will be widened to four lanes. In addition, an 8-kilometre stretch from Manginapudi beach to Machilipatnam town is proposed to be upgraded into a four-lane road.
Andhra Pradesh News: In Gudivada, where passenger traffic is heavy, plans include linking a 3.2-kilometre four-lane road from the existing railway overbridge to National Highway 216. This road will have dividers, street lighting, and proper drainage. DPRs are also being prepared to secure funds for new railway overbridges at key locations.
Officials said some changes are being proposed to the DPR of National Highway 65, which will be discussed at higher levels before final approval. The Gudivada–Kankipadu road, planned over 27 kilometres, will connect three national highways. Additional access roads near the railway overbridge at Marlapalem in Gannavaram mandal are also planned.
